Mens Pompadour Hairstyle, A Rockabilly Fav

The most popular rockabilly haircut is the mens pompadour hairstyle. When you think of this type of haircut you may envision Elvis Presley or Frank Sinatra.

In fact, both of these legendary figures were known for supporting this look and for wearing it at different lengths.

The mens Pompadour hairstyle first became popular in the 1950's. It's name came from the lady who invented the style, Madame de Pompadour. It was

first a look that you only saw on men. But as the years passed, women began to wear this look as well.

The essential style of the Pompadour is to brush the hair straight back and up. The hair remains this way by using a lot of grease. This is why the men who choose to wear this look are sometimes called Greasers, even today.

When wearing this style, the sides are cut really short and close. The top is left long enough to comb back in a sweeping like manner. This is one reason why the Pompadour haircut was so popular. One could wear it at any top length he choose. The hair can be parted or not. This is the sole discretion of the wearer.

One method is the blow dry method.

One just takes a shower and washes the hair as he would normally.

Then he wrings the hair out with a towel.
Now the fun part begins.
Place a bit of hair styling gel or grease in your hands and begin forming the pompadour.
You will want to try to get some height into it.
Now using your blow dryer, bend your head downward as you dry.

This will help keep the height you just created.
Once you get the height you like, place some firm holding gel over the pompadour.
Then finish with a finishing spray.
You may want to mess up the front a bit to create a tousle type look.

This second method is probably the preferred one.

Just wash your hair as your normally would.
Then place a lot of pomade and place it into your hair.
Now create the pompadour with your hands.
To do this you will want to comb your hair back and up. If you wish, part your hair.
Parting your hair can be a challenge the first few times.
To do this, push the hair slightly forward in the front. This will help give the hair a lift.
Comb back the rest of the hair, giving it a blended look.
Remember to always comb your hair upwards.
Comb the sides back.
Mess up the front a bit to give it a tousle look
And viola you just look like you stepped out of the 1950's.

As for getting that nasty grease out of your hair, many men have found out that good ole' dish detergent works fine; but if you wish to try something a little more sophisticated, look for some Dax Vegetable Shampoo- it works wonders.

If you have decided that you would like to try this fun loving rockabilly look of a mens Pompadour hairstyle, have no fear whatsoever of where to go for the cut and the styling process. There are so many barbers and stylist throughout the world that still cater to this look, it it so in right now. Enjoy, Men's Pompadour Hairstyles

Total inspiration for my next hair cut. <3
